Keyboard self build.

Key switches

I’ve been toying with the idea of building a keyboard for a few years now. It seems like a nice, self contained project combining both hardware and software elements.

I also have to admit to being fascinated by the variety of layouts, hardware components and styles of key caps that can be picked up from sites like Massdrop.

The Project

Not looking to invest a huge amount of resources into this project initially, I’ve decided to start small and build a number pad. It’s basically a small version of a full keyboard, using the same production techniques and software. This should give me a good starting point to expand into a larger device. It’s also the one thing I’ve missed since I started to use a Mac laptop as my primary development machine.

The project repository is hosted here on GitHub.
